The KNAUS Campingpark Walkenried is located directly on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Walkenried in the southern Harz Mountains. This idyllic spot promises relaxing holidays all year round for young and old in the midst of untouched nature. Relax, enjoy the peace and quiet of the tranquil spa resort and relax in the campsite's own indoor swimming pool and Finnish sauna.
Enjoy nature and discover the unique karst landscape on foot. With its countless kilometres of clearly signposted trails, the Harz Mountains are a true paradise for hikers at any time of year. Whether short distance or extended day trip, narrow paths or well developed ways, demanding climbs or even terrain: There is something for everyone here. The first stamp station for your Harzer Wandernadel can be reached with a beautiful hike of approx. 3 km directly from the camping park.
Due to its central location, Campingpark Walkenried is the ideal starting point for active holidaymakers and their excursions in the surrounding area. Whether summer or winter, you will find a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the year in the southern Harz region. In summer, the various natural swimming pools and lakes attract many visitors. Don't miss the unique outdoor swimming pool Priorteich in Walkenried! It lies idyllically hidden in a nature reserve and is surrounded by a natural mixed forest.
In the cold season, winter sports fans in the immediate vicinity of Walkenried will also get their money's worth. There are ski runs with different levels of difficulty, many kilometres of groomed cross-country ski runs, well prepared toboggan runs and sign posted snow hiking routes through magically snow-covered forests await you.
The Camping Park team will also make your stay an unforgettable experience with a great deal of passion and creativity: a colourful and varied programme is offered all year round for children of all ages. The barbecue and campfire evenings, which take place weekly from Easter to October, are particularly popular with the adults.
Explore the remains of the medieval Cistercian monastery Walkenried, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. The attached museum is one of the most beautiful and innovative museums in Europe. The technically elaborate media presentation of the original exhibits astonishes young and old alike and brings them closer to the history of the monastery and the life of the monks. You too can embark on this exciting journey!
A special highlight for families with children is the witches' dancing ground in Thale and Wurmberg, only 25 km away. The mountain can be conquered comfortably with the cable car or on foot on a hike. While the parents enjoy the view from above in the "Gipfelstürmern", the little ones jump around on the spacious playground or watch the animals in the petting zoo. The descent then takes you down the 411 metres to the Valley Station on monster scooters.
Action fans should not miss a trip to the Rappbodetalsperre: The HARZDRENALIN team has Europe's largest double rope slide, the "MEGAZIPLINE", the "TITAN RT" - the world's longest suspension bridge of its kind and many other daring leisure activities waiting for adventurous visitors.
The legendary Brocken, at 1,141 m the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, is another highlight of the region. No matter whether you climb it with the historic steam train, a horse-drawn carriage or on foot - the view from this summit is an absolute must for a holiday in the Harz Mountains.
If you don't want to climb so high, the Rabensteiner-Stollen gives you an insight into the depths of the earth. Start your journey of discovery with the mine train and marvel at this unique underground world.
The Kyffhäuser Geopark is about 60km away from Walkenried and impresses with an immense variety of landscapes on a total of 800km². In this densely wooded area you will find the Kyffhäuser Mountains with the fascinating Kyffhäuser Monument, the old Barbarossa Tomb and the Barbarossa Cave: there the legend of Emperor Wilhelm I - also called Barbarossa - sleeps in his underground castle as long as ravens fly around the mountain.
Those interested in history should not miss a visit to the imperial palace of Goslar and the medieval old towns of Wernigerode, Quedlinburg or Duderstadt.
